About Me
Hi again! I am Cleo, the creator of this corner. If we have never met, here is a little bit about me to get to know me! I was born and raised in the small town of Lyndon, Kansas. Living in the same place and attending the same school since Kindergarten, I began my secondary education not far from home at Ottawa University. My career at OU began with the unknown; I was undecided in my major and unsure of where I wanted to end up in life. However, after many reading and writing courses, I found my niche in writing. Mentored by an amazing group of English professors, I was challenged in my writing where I soon found poetry to be an outlet for my own thoughts and journey. In December of 2024, I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in English. Still unsure about my future, I am hoping that Cleo’s Corner will be an outlet where I can continue to create and now share my work with more people. I hope you find peace, joy, and maybe even inspiration in this place.
About the Works
Growing up in a Funeral Home and watching my father in his profession, I have had a close connection to grief, and maybe morbid to some, to death. This relationship has bled through into many of the pieces that I have created, especially in the works of my college writing assignments. An uncomfortable but unavoidable feeling for all, there is a sense of closeness to the uncomfortable that can be found in my pieces. You cannot outrun grief, and in a way, I try to make readers sit with it and become a friend to it.
I’m grateful for the perspective I have been given through the home that I grew up in. I have learned to unapologetically feel all things deeply, which I have found many people try to avoid. So when you come to read, I invite you to sit with an open mind, be vulnerable, and know that the rawness of your being and of your humanness is absolutely beautiful.
